The Chronicles of San Diego Podcast: Fishermen, Farmers and Friends
Did you know that San Diego county has over 5,000 small farms? I learned that factoid and many others over the course of my conversation with Trish Watlington, Lara Worm and DJ Tangalin. The four of us sat down at Bivouac Ciderworks in Northpark where DJ is the Head Chef and Lara is one of two owners to talk about the Farm to Fork Week of events that Trish organizes.
Farm to Fork Week is a celebration of our region's outstanding chefs and dining destinations and a chance to try creative events and meet new like minded locavores. What sets Farm to Fork Week apart is the commitments of the participating chefs to sourcing ingredients from local farmers, ranchers and fishermen who they know and trust, and the time spent verifying that participating chefs and restaurants are, in fact, buying from them.
In this episode, recorded at the beautiful Bivouac Ciderworks in North Park, Trish talks about the origins of the Farm to Fork San Diego organization that she runs and the values that drive her and her colleagues in the cultivation of the business practices that they adhere to day in and day out. Lara and DJ offer a distinct perspective as restaurant owner and head chef, and together we preview some of the events and dishes that will be on offer during Farm to Fork Week, which runs from September 9-16th.
Have a listen and make sure to carve out some time to drop by Bivouac or any of the numerous participating venues throughout the week for special menus offerings, or any time during the year.
Enjoy the show.
