The Chronicles of San Diego Podcast: All Hail The Mighty Thunderhawk
San Diego has become somewhat synonymous with craft beer. Wherever you go and whatever you do in town, there’s likely to be a brewery or bar full of local tap handles within spitting distance. Whether you’ve attended one of our Politics in the Pub Podcasts where Ryan Ginard and I take a deep, beverage-induced dive into local politics, or just partake on your own time, you’re probably familiar with the wide variety of pale ales, IPAs, hazy IPAs, IIPAs, sours, stouts, browns, porters, lagers pilsners and more that San Diego’s craft community has cultivated.
One brewery you may be less familiar with is Thunderhawk Alements. Thunderhawk opened in 2017 up in beeramar, and in their short time in town have already established themselves as a favorite among locals.
In this episode, Chronicle contributor Denzel Walkes sits down with co-founder Jonathan Barbarin to talk about the origins of Thunderhawk Alements, the process that Jonathan and his business partner Bill Lindsay went through to execute the build out of their facility, some of the bullsh*t hipster beer culture that has sprung up around San Diego, the dearth of diversity in the industry and much more.
Check this episode out! Thunderhawk is a great spot and I’ve been reliably informed that the owners are both big soccer fans which is always a plus in my book.
