Padres Humbled by Halos

After taking two of three vs the wild card leading Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies, the Padres stumbled at home and were swept by the Los Angeles Angels in Interleague play at Petco Park.

The Padres were haunted by a former Padre in game one of the series on Monday night. Justin Upton robbed Eric Hosmer’s go-ahead home run in the 8th inning and proceed to blast a two-run home run in the 10th inning to give the Angels a 6-3 win. Jose Briceno opened up the scoring in the 3rd with a solo homer to give the Angels a 1-0 lead and they added another run on a wild pitch later in the inning. Freddy Galvis cut the score in half with a solo home run in the bottom half of in the inning.

Hosmer homered in the bottom of the 10th to cut the deficit to 6-3 but it wasn’t enough as the Padres fell on Monday night.

Things did not get any better for San Diego on Tuesday as Upton homered for the second straight game. Padres starter Brett Kennedy struggled going 5 innings allowing 5 runs on 9 hits. With the Padres trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th, Freddy Galvis hit his 10th home run of the year to put San Diego on the board but the Angels respond right back with two runs in the top of the 5th.
