The City Council is expected to push the decision regarding whether to adopt the State University's campus expansion and stadium proposal to the midterm election in November, as opposed to directly adopting the initiative.
The project consists of 1.6 million square feet of classroom and research buildings and what is loosely defined as "open space". It would also include 4,500 housing units, retail shops, two hotels and a multi-use, 35,000-seat $200 million stadium for college football and other sports.
"When we look to the future needs of SDSU, Mission Valley represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a proximate property where we can grow," outgoing interim President of SDSU Sally Roush commented.
The above video from KPBS nicely summarizes the components of the SDSU West expansion plan, and also offers some insight into how the site would be reconstructed over a time period of at least 15 years.
