Politics in the Pub LIVE - Post-election Observations From India

It’s good to be with you with our 6th episode of Politics in the Pub LIVE coming hot off the proverbial press. Sadly we had to postpone our election special due to our original venue being affected by the recent strike action of Unite Here local 30. All you have to do is download our second episode on unionism to understand our actions and that values only mean something when applied.

We are happy that a new contract has been ratified and ending a 35-day strike and that in this day and age it’s important to stand with workers who are fighting for better wages, benefits, conditions and job security.

So the election happened. Dems took back the House and Trump took back Jim Acosta’s press credentials. You could say he ‘Acosta’d him’ but then that would be a dad joke or fake news. I don’t even know anymore.

We wanted to create a pod that gave more of a unique outlook of the midterms, you know, to break through the clutter of precinct numbers, blue waves and recounts in Florida.

Well that unique outlook comes from 8,500 miles away and from a group of young Indian leaders who were in town as part of the State Department sponsored International Visitor Leadership Program. This amazing group of  leaders who were made up of elected officials, party operatives and professors travelled to a number of major U.S. cities as they observed and learned about the U.S. Legislative and Political Process.

Some of the objectives of this delegation were to discuss the challenges and impact of engaging youth in political and civic activism and the role of media in campaigning in governance. We thank the San Diego Diplomacy Council for facilitating this connection and supporting the recording of this episode.

We covered a great deal over our two hour happy hour at Young Hickory in North Park including the under representation of female leadership, the current state of Indo-American relationships and a look at the 2019 Indian elections which is the largest exercise of democracy in the world with over 850 million voters and an election that takes place over several months.

We hope you enjoy this as much as we did and join us in tracking the political careers of these extremely passionate, knowledgeable and talented individuals.

Now let’s go live at Young Hickory with our latest episode of Politics In The Pub.
